Work Jackets

Whether you work in the pouring rain, frigid cold, or windiest conditions, a sturdy work jacket is a must on just about every job site. But, sometimes, the choice can be just as tough as the weather. At Strauss, we’ve finely tuned our men's work jackets to be as diverse as the weather – softshell jackets, lightweight windbreakers, and knitted jackets, and 3-in-1 jackets to serve as all-weather protective layer – and we’ve developed a system to help you find the perfect jacket for your job.

Step 1: Does your work jacket need to be certified?

Before you start sifting through the best work jackets, you should check with your employer to see if your jacket requires a specific safety certification For example, if you work as a welder, in the chemical industry, shipping, or even in construction, you may be exposed to elements that require several extra layers of protection to keep you safe on the job. Safety-certified jackets go through rigorous testing and vary among numerous classification types depending on your work environment. So, again, consult your employer to gauge what type of coat you may need.

Step 2: Where will you be wearing the jacket?

Indoors? Outdoors? Both?

It’s always important to consider where you’ll be wearing your workwear. Will you be spending most of your time working on the farm or landscaping or on road construction sites? If this is the case, weather protection is of the utmost importance, even visibility. If you’re spending your days indoors working in, say, the medical field or working in kitchens or factories, then a lightweight jacket with breathability and plenty of freedom-of-movement is a must. For this, consider a work softshell jacket or body warmer.

Wet? Windy? Chilly?

As the saying goes, “There’s no such thing as poor weather, just unsuitable clothing.” And it’s true. Choosing the right work jacket depends heavily on the weather conditions. So, what outerwear do you need?

Wet

Whether you’re caught in the pouring rain or just some wet fog, you need a jacket that prevents moisture from penetrating your clothing. Our water repellent rain jackets offer a perfect solution. These waterproof jackets are often manufactured with a special dryplexx® fabric that’s lightweight, breathable, and also windproof. For chillier conditions, we also offer fleece-lined rain jackets to keep you warm while you work.

Wind

Nothing is worse than the swirling wind around the building site. Fight the wind with some Strauss windproof workwear. Opt for softshell jackets and fleece jackets that will shield you perfectly. If you fear that the jacket will be heavy, then fear not! Thanks to our dryplexx® micro-features, the jackets are incredibly lightweight, warm thanks to microfleece, and the soft shell stops the wind from reaching your body.

Cold

Working is a challenge. Working in sub-zero temperatures is a completely different level; however, if you’re packed warmly enough, then it can be quite manageable, even comfortable in a winter jacket. And Strauss’ winter jackets are there to accomplish exactly that. They’ll keep you warm and protected while also making sure you’re safe on site. We use high-quality, performance materials like ISOFILL® and FIBERtwin to ensure maximum thermal insulation, breathability, and to guarantee that the jacket is still lightweight and comfortable despite the layers.

Step 3: The Key Jacket Types

For some jobs weather resistance is essential, for others functionality, and others may be size, fit, comfort or even just material. So, think, how will you use this jacket on a day-to-day basis? Each of our work jackets is carefully constructed to help workers work without restriction.

Lightweight Jacket

Mobility, protection, and comfort matter on the job, and this is where the Strauss lightweight jackets come in. Designed to protect workers from wind, rain, and cold, these jackets provide necessary coverage but without the bulk of heavier workwear. We use breathable, flexible materials that aid in your movement during physically demanding tasks. In many of our lightweight work jackets, we’ve reinforced the seams, tool pockets, and stretch panels to guarantee durability. Lightweight jackets are perfect for transitional weather, so you can keep focused, safe, and comfortable throughout the day.

Softshell Jacket

Warm, lightweight, and unrestricting: Softshells are great as an outer layer for working outdoors. They’re wind-resistant, breathable, and water-repellent. Depending on their lining, softshells offer protection against the cold. We offer all, including high-vis softshell jackets. Thanks to the smooth, easy-care surfaces and multifaceted properties, softshell jackets have become increasingly popular to wear on the job.

High-Vis Jacket

High-vis jackets have one key task: Enhance visibility of the wearer. We develop these to strict standards to guarantee your safety on the job. Our high-vis jackets come in a range of materials, styles and models. For instance, our waterproof high-vis jacket protects against wind and rain. We have fleece jackets in high-vis orange or high-vis yellow, and our sturdy, breathable softshell jackets in high-vis colors are a common sight on construction sites.

Vests

Work vests can play a crucial role on the job, depending on the weather. High-vis safety vests improve visibility in low-light or high-traffic areas, reducing the risks of accidents. Tool vests keep your most essential gear within reach, allowing you to work more efficiently. And then there are the warming, insulated work vests that add an extra layer of protection without restricting your movement in chilly weather. Whether you’re trying to be seen, improve your utility, or add some warmth to your work day, Strauss delivers a high-performance work vest to help you on the job.

Step 4: Key Features

The perfect work jacket not only protects against the elements, but it also serves you on a day-to-day basis. At Strauss, we meticulously develop each work jacket with considered details. We make sure the pockets are in just the right spot, the hood fits perfectly, sleeves are a little stretchy and fit just right, and the fasteners and cuffs work as you’d expect. Below are some details.

Pockets

Whether you need an inner pocket, chest pocket, the perfect side pockets or even a specific cell phone pocket, we mix-and-match to make sure our pocket placements help you do your job well.

Hoods

Do you want a hood? Yes? No? Sometimes? We create jackets with normal sized hoods as well as others with extra large hoods to fit with a helmet. We even have jackets with hoods that can be detached or stowed in the neck. Our winter and rain jackets are always hooded, but not all work jackets need them, so decide what's best for your job.

Reflectors

Visibility and safety often go hand-in-hand. For those who work on roads, reflectors and reflective design elements are integral. Many of our work jackets, bodywarmers, and vests contain high-quality 3M Scotchlite reflectors. The material is excellent at reflecting light to help ensure your safety.

Fasteners

How do you like your jacket fastened? What about your pockets? Adjustable cuffs? Whether it’s a hook-and-loop closure, zip, press stud, or magnetic button, the work jacket needs to close just right for your job. Check out our selection and choose what type of fastening is perfect for you.

Step 5: How to find the right jacket?

The easiest way would be to use the product filter on the strauss.com website. You can filter by factors like gender, price, and product availability. If you prefer to shop by our specific collection lines such as the e.s. motion 2020 or e.s. iconic you’ll easily be able to mix and match your work pants with your work jacket, so there’s nothing standing in your way of a perfect outfit, no matter the weather.
